VASE provides Construction Management (CM), General Contracting (GC), and Owner's Project Management (OPM). Our construction services support healthcare organizations, nonprofit institutions, municipalities, educational facilities, Housing and public/ private sector.
The Commercial Construction Estimator (CSA) is responsible for managing all aspects of the estimating and bidding process to support the successful pursuit and delivery of profitable work. From initial review of project documents through final bid submission and project turnover, this position plays a critical role in ensuring projects are competitively, comprehensively, and accurately priced.
Candidates should possess strong Civil, Structural, and Architectural (CSA) estimating skills, including the ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications and develop both conceptual and detailed project estimates. The Estimator will perform quantity takeoffs and develop pricing using sound estimating techniques to accurately assess materials, labor, and other resources required to execute the work.
The role also includes cost management and budgeting responsibilities, including establishing and maintaining project budgets, evaluating cost impacts, preparing cost forecasts, and supporting project financial planning and cost-control activities.
The Estimator will collaborate closely with project teams, subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, and clients. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are therefore essential, along with the ability to clearly present estimate assumptions, findings, cost drivers, risks, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Demonstrated knowledge of construction means and methods, applicable building codes, and industry best practices is highly desirable and will be considered an added advantage.
Estimating Responsibilities:
- Proficiency in construction takeoff and estimating software, and strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Lead full estimating and value engineering process for assigned projects — conceptual through final bid
- Perform quantity takeoffs, pricing, bid submissions and bid evaluation and analysis.
- Attend pre-bids, pre-jobs and project meetings
- Coordinate with subs/suppliers and manage bid day logistics
- Prepare budgets for negotiated work and design-build projects
- Review and evaluate job costs and budget with accounting staff
- Analyze post-bid results and support project turnover to operations
- Maintain and update the estimating database
- Perform assigned tasks in a safe, timely, accurate and efficient manner observing all safety laws, policies and rules
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architectural, or related field
- 7+ years of commercial construction estimating experience
- Advanced Math Skills
- Strong understanding of unit costs, market trends, and cost drivers
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook, and On-Screen Takeoff
- Strong communication, planning, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines with attention to detail
- Effective at building relationships with subcontractors and team members
Hybrid means employees may work from home on Fridays but are required to be in the office/ field Monday through Thursday.
The total compensation package includes a performance-based annual bonus, health, dental, vision, and life insurance, a retirement plan, and other benefits.
